Genetic ID Testing
GMO testing is used to detect and quantify the presence of GMOs. Genetic ID can reliably detect ALL commercialized genetically modified organisms including specific GMO varieties. Additional services include animal speciation and the Taste Evaluation Test.
Meeting Challenges Involved in the GMO Marketplace
GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are the results of new methods of genetic engineering applied to plant life. GMOs are accepted by some countries and rejected by others. Regulations requiring labeling of foods containing GMOs have now been adopted in many countries throughout Europe and the Pacific Rim, and are under development in other countries.
Genetic ID’s specialty is helping companies deal with business challenges related to:
Meeting regulations
Delivering product to customer contract specifications involving threshold tolerances and unapproved varieties
Optimizing sampling and testing programs to achieve efficiency in cost and operations
Resolving conflicts in a rapid and cost-effective way
When specific challenges occur in producing and delivering product anywhere in the world, the need is for a partner who knows the ropes. Genetic ID makes available to customers its expert technology and its expertise in the field to resolve real-world challenges in a timely, scientifically sound, and ultimately successful way.
PCR Testing Recognized As Most Rigorous, Sensitive, And Accurate Worldwide
In order to export product and meet customer contracts PCR testing is required. PCR is the gold standard for GMO testing. GMO tests based on PCR (short for polymerase chain reaction) are used worldwide to verify contracts and regulatory compliance.
PCR detects genetically modified DNA directly, and is therefore highly sensitive. PCR based tests allow one to screen for GMO by trait, event, or generic screening construct and are therefore capable of detecting all GMOs. Furthermore, PCR is effective with a much broader array of sample types than immunoassays such as ELISA and strip tests. Finally, and most importantly, PCR allows definitive quantification of GMO level because analysis is performed directly at the DNA level. For these reasons, Genetic ID uses primarily PCR methods.
Genetic ID offers a full palette of qualitative and quantitative testing options. We can offer enormous flexibility in creating a customized testing program to suit your needs.
The tests are typically used in one of five major application categories:
GMO Detection
Genetic ID can reliably detect ALL commercialized genetically modified organisms. GMO testing is used to detect and quantify the presence of GMOs.
Varietal ID Testing
Varietal ID testing is used to detect the presence of specific GMO varieties. It is typically used when a food source must meet regulatory requirements for specific GMOs, such as the absence of StarLink or other unapproved varieties.
Animal Feed
Testing
Animal Feed testing is used to detect the presence of animal-derived materials, such as meat and bone meal, in animal feed or its components, whether species-specific or for a general order of animals such as ruminants.
Animal Speciation
New comprehensive tests determine the species of meat products, enabling clients to comply with domestic and international regulations.
Taste Test
Genetic ID’s proprietary Taste Evaluation Test program developed by Genetic ID Japan is a comprehensive battery of tests that quantitatively evaluate sensory properties of foods.
Selecting the Right Test
Within these application areas, a wide variety of test variations may apply. Genetic ID has pioneered the most accurate and reliable testing methods available today. Selecting the correct testing protocol depends on knowing the standards and the regulatory environments that apply. Our technical experts will help you maneuver through this selection process.
Knowing the Regulations
A key component of success in testing depends on knowing the current status of export/import regulations. With an international network of operations and laboratories, Genetic ID has a team of world-class technical and regulatory specialists who are ready to help you navigate the complex GMO regulatory landscape. Genetic ID enjoys a strong reputation for accuracy and reliability among government agencies around the world. This experience allows us to skillfully guide you through GMO market hurdles.
