TASTE TESTS
Genetic ID’s proprietary Taste Evaluation Test program developed by Genetic ID Japan is a comprehensive battery of tests that quantitatively evaluate sensory properties of foods. By systematically comparing analytical data for these parameters (e.g. taste, flavor, and appearance), one can easily evaluate and compare the “taste profile” of different products.

Scientific data provides a “standard language” between the exporter and Japanese buyers. If a company can determine the “TASTE QUALITY PROFILE” of their products based on scientific data then they can confidently identify the quality of their products without uncertainty.
This quantitative profile is a highly objective empirical tool that can be used in many ways, such as the following:
Client-partners in Japan and in North America are using Genetic ID’s taste profiling system to guide the development of new products that have a highly attractive taste/sensory-profile.
Some clients are using this analytical program to compare the sensory profiles of their own products to various products in the market place, including competitors’ products.
The results of this analysis have been used as a strong and highly convincing—“scientific”—component for marketing and promotion.
This system is also being used as a quality control tool, to assure consistency and high quality. The taste test program has emerged as a significant and growing revenue stream in Japan. Retail supermarkets, including the largest chain in Japan, convenience stores, consumer cooperatives, food manufacturers, grower cooperatives, and importers are increasingly using Genetic ID Japan’s sensory profiling services to assess a wide range of products, including rice, wheat flour, soy, fruit juice, seafood, pork, beef, and many traditional foods, such as tofu and rice crackers.
